What Android version does AppCarousel require?

AppCarousel requires Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later. Most Android devices manufactured from 2017 onwards meet this requirement, making it easy to repurpose old phones and tablets as smart displays. You can check your Android version in Settings → About Phone → Android Version.

Can I use AppCarousel on a tablet as well as a phone?

Yes. AppCarousel works on any Android device running Android 8.0 or later — smartphones, tablets, and Android TV boxes. Old Android tablets are particularly well suited for reception displays and low-cost digital signage.

What types of content can I display on my smart display?

AppCarousel supports images (JPEG, PNG, WebP), videos (MP4, WebM), web content via URL, and installed apps on your Android device. All four types can be mixed in a single carousel with individual timing for each item — giving you a fully customisable always-on display.

Does AppCarousel work without an internet connection?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Once content has been loaded onto the device, AppCarousel can run entirely offline as a smart display. An internet connection is only required when adding new web-based content or updating remote URLs.

How do I stop the screen from turning off?

Accepted Answer

When you first run AppCarousel, the app will request permission to enable the 'Always On' setting. Granting this permission is all that is needed to keep your Android device running as a permanent always-on display — there is no requirement to make any additional changes in your device settings.

How do I exit kiosk mode?

Triple tap the designated exit zone on the screen to exit kiosk mode. The exit zone can be hidden if preferred, and additional exit options can be configured to trigger on certain events within the AppCarousel app settings.

Is my content stored on the device or in the cloud?

Content is stored locally on your Android device. Images and videos you add are downloaded to the device and played from local storage, which means smart display playback is smooth and works offline.
